Bangor University is the first UK university to lead a twinning partnership under UNESCO's UNITWIN Network.

The Network will see academics at Bangor University's leading School of Ocean Sciences sharing their expertise in sustainability and marine sciences with marine scientists and academics in Tanzania, east Africa.

Under the Network partnership, around 14 academics at Bangor University will be working with over 20 researchers at the Institute of Marine Sciences, Zanzibar, part of the University of Dar es Salaam, to extend the Institute's research capacity and create a regional centre of excellence in marine sciences and technology in east Africa.

E. African regional energy resource base

The Regional Resource base is an initiative by the GTZ Regional Energy Advisory Platform East Africa (REAP-EA) that contains a comprehensive database providing both historical and current information with regards to Renewable Energy and energy efficiency in the region. It provides a platform for cross-pollination of ideas, information sharing and knowledge management amongst various stakeholders on regional energy issues. Moreover, it also includes contacts of the key actors in the region with respect to energy issues.

The resource base seeks to provide GTZ staff and other strategic partners with reference information and sample best practices to facilitate discussion and decision making related to improved access to modern energy services and energy security offered through renewable energy and energy efficiency. The database will cover the wider Eastern Africa namely Ethiopia, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda, Eritrea, Burundi and Somalia.

The key features of the resource base are simplicity, accessibility and ease of data update. It has a simple and easy to use structure. Given that GTZ and other development partners activities are not restricted to national boundaries, the energy information resource base has in general been sorted by activity. However information specific to countries such as energy policy and energy resource have been sorted by country. Three main categories have been used for the resource base:

East Africa Energy Information Pool
East Africa Energy Projects Database
East Africa Events Calendar
